Green DNA

I have completed a 67 marker DNA test at Family Tree DNA. Guess what, I'm a Green! So far my best match, with other Green's, is a 66 of 67 markers match. This match is with a Green in Onterio Canada. I have visited with his cousin in Redding CA, she is the one who payed for his test. We will be working to establish the connection of their ancestors with William Green. Hoping to break down the brick wall here!

More Later!

I'm sorry to report that my mother, Ida Kannenberg, passed away early this morning: May 17. She was the daughter of Ernest John (JAKE) Green and Vera E. (Smith) Green. Her passing was quiet and she was did not experience pain or suffering although her physical condition was seriously compromised at age 95.

Wow - I finally figured out how to get back on this list and post. They keep changing things and my last few efforts were thwarted.

Who Was William Green

William was born in Indiana in 1818, according to census records and family notes. The census records are not always completely accurate. It probably depends on who supplied the information. One census record, 1870, lists his birthplace as Ohio. 1880 census lists both his parents' birthplaces as state or territory, Illinois. All census records show William's occupation as a copper. Family notes say that he learned the trade in Indiana.

William married Mary Ann Ransom July 25, 1841 in Schulyer County Illinois. Mary Ann was born in Kentucky. We have a copy of their marriage license.

William and Mary Ann's children were as follows.
- Anna L Green 10 May 1842 Brown County Illinois (Annie)(Barnes and DeMaranville)
- Margaret Jane Green 13 Apr 1844 Peoria Illinois (Mary, Maggie)(Donnelly)
- John T Green 7 Aug 1847 (Jack)(Never married)
- George Adams Green 25 Oct 1849 Brown County Illinois
- Eleanor Green 1852 Brown County Illinois (Nellie)(Maranville)
- Hiram Harrison Green 18 Sept 1859 Brown County Illinois
- Emma Green 30 Apr 1861 Henry County Illinois (Harp and Cook)
- Marry Susan Green 22 Sept 1863 Whiteside County Illinois (Molly)(Parrish)

William moved to Davenport, Iowa in 1880. He died 17 Oct 1897 and Mary Ann died 1 Aug 1905. They are buried in Montpelier Cemetery, Montpelier, Iowa.

Let me know if you have any corrections or questions about this information.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions to research William's parents/siblings!!!!!

Ernest John and Vera

I contacted the person who created the memorials for Ernest John and for Vera on findagrave.com. Their memorials were not linked as husband and wife. Also, Vera's maiden name was not shown. That has been corrected, as you will see when you visit their memorial pages on finda grave.com.
